The Story of The Lookout at Cuttlefish Bay ...

The history of the Lookout at Cuttlefish Bay is really a story of two families.

Sandy is a Buick. Kevin is a Howard. Both of these families came to Kangaroo Island between 1848 and 1883 as original pioneer farming families. They chose the Dudley Peninsula as their place to settle down and raise their families.

The Howard family built 3 separate houses at Cuttlefish Bay. Kevin’s Grandparents built the original part of this property in the 1950s, as a place for them to retire. The family sold the house in the 1970’s.

In 1984, the owners at the time, Peter and Malcolm, added the apartment onto the property and the beautiful garden work began to take shape. These gardens are now over 30 years old, established and an amazing addition to the property.

Sandy and Kevin decided to buy back the property in 2015, returning ownership to the original Howard family. They rent out The Garden Apartment as a self-contained holiday property. Meeting interesting people from all over the world is something they truly enjoy. They love sharing the gardens and property with their friends, family and visitors to Kangaroo Island.
